Milliners throw hats into ring
Local milliners are taking their hats off this Saturday for a good cause.
Six well-known New Zealand hat designers are putting their exquisite hats and fascinators up for auction at the Hat Tricks Tea Dance being held at the Hilton.
The event marks the end of Artworks at the Hilton charity week.
Funds raised from the auction will go to Variety – The Children’s Charity.
Variety chief executive Lorraine Taylor says a tea dance is a great event to have at the Hilton and a hat auction seemed like the perfect fit.
Hats at the auction from designers Kevin Berkhan, Natalie Chan, Ailie Miller, Jo-anne Halls, Geoffrey Colquhoun and Kay Findlay will be modelled by Miss World New Zealand contestants.
Ms Taylor says there was an “incredible response” from all the milliners contacted.
“They’re very keen to be involved.”
Top milliner Ailie Miller has designed hats for more than 30 years and says she is pleased to be contributing two of her designs.
“It’s great because milliners are the forgotten designers really.”
The auction will be accompanied by a high tea and a dance demonstration from Dancing With the Stars contestants Nerida Jantti and Monty Betham.
Variety – The Children’s Charity helps sick, disadvantaged and disabled children around the world.
Guests will also have unlimited entry to the Artworks at the Hilton exhibition which began on Monday and runs until Saturday.
Tickets for the Hat Tricks Tea Dance and auction are available for $65 from www. iticket.co.nz.
