Police are working to keep children in school this term.
The community policing team at Mt Wellington is targeting truants with the help of community constables and schools in the eastern area, including Onehunga High School, Royal Oak Intermediate and One Tree Hill College.
Senior sergeant Hirone Waretini says police will work with the families of regular truants to help them get back on track.
Police will also patrol popular hang-outs for those skipping school.
He says most young people caught creating mischief are not engaged in any form of education.
