A new website to help in the fight against a virus that can cause cervical cancer was launched earlier this week.

Www.oneforthegirls.co.nz will provide teenage girls with a forum to talk about the benefits of the HPV (human papillomavirus) immunisation.

The immunisation is free for girls aged 17 and 18 and is available from their primary healthcare provider.

New Zealand Immunisation Advisory Centre director Dr Nikki Turner hopes that over time, the vaccination will reduce cervical cancer cases caused by the virus.

“Every year this may save 60 women from dying of cervical cancer,” Dr Turner says.
