Queen St is 30kmh

Central Leader - - News -

Traffic on Queen St will be slowing down by the end of October.

Auckland City Council signed off the new 30kmh speed limit at a meeting last week.

The new limit will apply from Mayoral Drive to Customs St, with the upper part of Queen St remaining unaffected.

The slower limit is intended to improve pedestrian and cyclist safety along the road.

The reduction from 50kmh to 30kmh will slow top end speeds and make it a much more serious offence to travel at 60 or 70kmh.

The new limit was approved by the council’s transport committee earlier this month after it was endorsed by all major stakeholders except the Automobile Association.

People will be notified and signs organised and the new limit should be in place by the end of October.
