Be­ware of bald­ing bagsnatcher

Po­lice are warn­ing women to be vig­i­lant af­ter a bagsnatcher struck five times in Auck­land.

The in­ci­dents occurred in east­ern sub­urbs and Green­lane.

In each case, the women vic­tims on their own were ap­proached by the man ei­ther in a car or on foot.

He asked some women for di­rec­tions or the time be­fore grab­bing their bags and flee­ing. One woman was threat­ened with a claw ham­mer.

Po­lice be­lieve the of­fender is us­ing a car stolen from Grey Lynn last Fri­day af­ter­noon, a sil­ver 2001 Mazda 626 GLX sedan.

The Pakeha man is de­scribed as 35 to 40 years old and of medium build with tanned skin and short, light­brown hair.

He has a re­ced­ing hair­line, dis­coloured teeth and a tat­too on his up­per left arm.
