Dancers go up Queen St

Central Leader - - News -

A parade of dancing along Queen St on Sunday will kick off this year’s tempo dance festival.

The festival runs until October 31 featuring performances, workshops and variety shows in many styles.

Artistic director MaryJane O’Reilly says the parade will honour Queen St’s origins as a stream.

Members of the public are welcome to join in.

The parade starts at Queen Elizabeth II Square at 12.30pm and ends with free events at Aotea Square.

Ms O’Reilly says the programme features a wide range of talented dance artists, including Touch Compass, BackLit Productions, Michael Parmenter and Okareka.

“There are lots of opportunities to experience dance in lots of different ways, as something you do as well as something you view.

“It’s a reflection of the solid experience and talent of the dance scene in New Zealand.”
