Head in sand

Central Leader - - Letters -

The negative attitude of the Auckland City Council towards the proposal to construct a walkway and cycleway on the Auckland Harbour Bridge is very disappointing and is a real let-down to the people of Auckland.

In the face of soaring fuel prices and ever-worsening traffic congestion, one would think such a proposal for one of New Zealand’s icons would have the full support of the council.

The council needs to get its head out of the sand and start putting in place alternative noncar and oil-reliant transport infrastructure.

And people will use it – just look at the number of people who walk and cycle along Tamaki Drive every day. ISAAC BROOME
