Blue bins bloom

Blue recycling bins are going green at the Auckland Flower Show.

Growing your own garden in an old blue recycling bin could give you the chance to be an exhibitor at the November show at Alexandra Park.

And there is a bonus for the creators of all gardens accepted for display – they will be refunded the cost of their flower show ticket.

Gold, silver and bronze awards will be selected, with winners receiving a free ticket to the exhibitor’s site awards party.

“We want to encourage people who are passionate about gardening and the flower show to become involved,” says Auckland Flower Show gardens convener Jenny Pullar.

“They’re a perfect growing medium, and really this is just another great use for a bit of plastic that’s always been put to great use.”
