HNZ garden contest under way
Entries open next week for the Housing New Zealand garden awards.
The awards are open to all Housing New Zealand tenants, and aim to recognise the pride and effort put into taking care of properties.
“So many tenants put in so much love and care into their homes and gardens that it is important that it’s recognised,” says HNZ chief executive Lesley McTurk.
The awards, entered by more than 3000 households each year, will be judged by broadcaster and gardener Maggie Barry.
This year the focus is on low-cost, environmentally friendly and sustainable gardening practices.
Prizes are awarded in five categories: general garden, vegetable garden, small garden, children’s garden and community group housing garden.
A special prize is also awarded for the most environmentally friendly gardens.
Entry forms will be sent directly to HNZ tenants. Entries are open until January 30.
National judging takes place in March.
