Call to treat fireworks with care

Central Leader - - News -

Guy Fawkes celebrations are on tonight and emergency services warn people to treat fireworks with care.

A Guy Fawkes 2008 website has been set up by government agencies with tips for a safe celebration.

It warns people to follow instructions on fireworks, and to light them in a wide open area, away from anything flammable.

Children should never be allowed to light fireworks and a bucket of water or hose should be kept handy. Pets need to be kept inside. The Auckland City Council will close the gates to Mt Eden, Mt Albert, Mt Roskill and One Tree Hill at 6pm until Thursday.
