City down Southerners 2-0
Auckland City football team had a successful start in their campaign to win back the New Zealand Football Championship last weekend, defeating Otago 2-0.
In front of a crowd of just under 1000 at their home-base of Kiwitea St, Matt Friel opened the scoring for City in just the ninth minute.
City managed to keep the Southerners scoreless and in the 63rd minute Keryn Jordan nabbed the decider.
But Auckland didn’t have it all their own way in the second half with Otago player Dave Dugdale denied a goal by the linesman’s flag and Barry Gardiner hitting the City crossbar.
Auckland’s next match is against Waikato FC on Sunday in Ngaruawahia from 2pm.
