Arsonist strikes in Onehunga
Police are investigating an arson attack at a Housing New Zealand property in Onehunga.
The Fire Service was called to the Felix St address at 9.40am on Thursday after neighbours noticed smoke coming from the house.
Fire safety officer Russell Dickson says a person entered the property and started a number of fires in different rooms.
The arsonist tried to use a liquid to accelerate the fires but it did not ignite properly and the flames caused minimal damage.
The occupant had left the house earlier and no one was home when the blazes were started.
Detective sergeant Jason McIntosh says the house had been broken into but police were not aware of anything being taken.
