Ful­bright schol­ar­ship a big achieve­ment

Mt Roskill res­i­dent Jes­sica Ro­drigues has been ranked among some of the best stu­dents in the world.

The Auck­land Uni­ver­sity bach­e­lor of tech­nol­ogy grad­u­ate has won a Ful­bright sci­ence and tech­nol­ogy award.

Jes­sica is one of 40 stu­dents in­ter­na­tion­ally to be cho­sen for the schol­ar­ship, which will al­low her to study for a PhD in the United States.

She hopes to go to Cal­i­for­nia to re­search the biotech­nol­ogy po­ten­tial of plants and mi­crobes.

Ful­bright schol­ar­ships are awarded to grad­u­ate stu­dents in sci­ence, tech­nol­ogy or en­gi­neer­ing by the US gov­ern­ment.

They cover full tu­ition for three years of doc­tor­ate study, plus a re­turn air­fare to the US and al­lowances for books, equip­ment, re­search and con­fer­ence at­ten­dance.
