The Spirit of Adventure Trust has been presented with a prestigious international award.

The trust, which operates the Spirit of New Zealand, was named Sail Training Organisation of the Year at an awards dinner in Nova Scotia last week.

The award is given to the sail training vessel that has demonstrated excellence in innovation and best practice in youth development at sea for young people.

Trust chairman Stephen B Fisher says the award is a huge honour.

“The Sail Training Organisation of the Year Award is a reflection of the professionalism, and dedication of our staff, volunteers, supporters and board who have for the past 35 years delivered a programme with quantified positive outcomes to over 75,000 young New Zealanders.
