Cel­e­bra­tions galore in count­down to Christ­mas

Christ­mas cel­e­bra­tions are com­ing to Auck­land neigh­bour­hoods over the next two weeks, with eight free events around the city.

Fes­tiv­i­ties be­gin with switch­ing-on the One­hunga Christ­mas lights on De­cem­ber 5.

The Jel­li­coe Park cel­e­bra­tion also fea­tures lo­cal mu­sic groups, carol singing, face paint­ing, a visit from Santa and the tra­di­tional lighting of the Christ­mas tree.

Car­ols by Can­dle­light events take place dur­ing De­cem­ber in Pon­sonby, Three Kings, St He­liers, Bal­moral and Wai­heke Is­land.

Otahuhu joins the fes­tivi- ties on De­cem­ber 13 with Christ­mas per­for­mances, face paint­ing, clowns and a spe­cial visit from Santa.

Avon­dale spins its own yule­tide web with Car­ols by Spi­derlight on De­cem­ber 14.

Arts, cul­ture and recre­ation com­mit­tee chair­man Greg Moyle en­cour­ages every­one to come along and cel­e­brate the sea­son.

“Th­ese events are a great op­por­tu­nity for fam­i­lies and friends to get into the spirit of Christ­mas with oth­ers in their lo­cal com­mu­nity,” he says.
