Drink-drive blitz

More than 100 drunk­drivers were caught in a four-day po­lice sting last week, some with ba­bies and young chil­dren in their ve­hi­cles.

Check­points were set up in the city and sur­round­ing sub­urbs, from Blockhouse Bay to West­mere, Mt Al­bert and Glen Innes. Of those stopped, 131 had ex­cess breath al­co­hol, 18 ve­hi­cles were im­pounded and 37 peo­ple had li­cences sus­pended. Twelve were ar­rested for other of­fences, in­clud­ing steal­ing ve­hi­cles, pos­sess­ing cannabis and breach­ing bail.
