Man jailed for two sex­ual at­tacks

A man who raped a woman and sex­u­ally vi­o­lated an­other has been sen­tenced to eight years and three months in prison.

Ta­pu­atua Hiomai Onaariki, 21, of no fixed abode, was sen­tenced for the crimes in the Auck­land High Court on Fe­bru­ary 23.

He was sen­tenced on two counts of rape and four counts of sex­ual vi­o­la­tion by un­law­ful sex­ual con­nec­tion for the two of­fences.

The first crime hap­pened at 1.30am on Au­gust 30, 2007, when he pulled a 19-year-old woman into Al­bert Park and sex­u­ally as- saulted her. She man­aged to es­cape and re­port it to po­lice.

On Oc­to­ber 6, 2007, Onaariki at­tacked and raped an 18-yearold North­land stu­dent in My­ers Park. He has been sen­tenced to a min­i­mum non-pa­role pe­riod of four-and-a-half years.
