Gift catalogue for needy

A new scheme from the Lifewise charity is delivering a double dose of the feel-good factor.

The Life Giving Gifts programme sees a generous member of the public choose a gift from a catalogue which goes to a person or family in need.

In turn, a card is sent to a nominated friend of their choice, telling them of the benefits the gift will bring to the recipient.

Gifts available range from two litres of milk per week to improve a homeless person’s health, a bunch of flowers to cheer up a lonely elderly person, or piano les- sons to give confidence to a foster child.

General manager of Lifewise community services John McCarthy says the Life Giving Gifts programme is an innovative way of addressing community needs and giving gifts at the same time.

He says the charity’s resources are stretched more than ever because of the recession and the gift programme is a way to support the community that will be truly effective.
