The team at Roskill Aquasport are feeling a bit cold at the thought of bidding a fond farewell to all their loyal members at the Roskill Aquasport Swim and Gym complex at the Cameron Pool, after a decision by the Auckland City Council not to renew their contract.

Roskill Aquasport have been successfully operating the complex for more than 20 years and in that time they have transformed what was once a small asbestos covered pool into the outstanding facility it is today, complete with separate learner’s pool, gymnasium, steam room, spa and sauna.

“While we’re sad to being going, we’ve had a lot of fun during our time here and would like to thank all our swim and gym members for their friendship, loyalty and custom,” says Hilton Brown, director of the Aquasport Group and Hilton Brown Swimming.

“I’d also like to say a big thank you to all our wonderful staff for their great commitment over the years.

“People have been gutted when they’ve heard what has happened,” he adds.

The Cameron Pool enjoyed great success under the guidance and dedication of Roskill Aquasport Ltd in catering to the requirements of the lo- cal community. Their forward thinking led to the introduction of a number of exciting activities never before seen in New Zealand, like mother and baby swimming lessons and aquasize classes.

They were also the first complex to provide female only lifeguards on Sunday evenings, enabling Muslim women to swim without compromising their religious beliefs – something which was put in the ‘too hard’ basket by other facilities.

In addition, more than 100,000 people, spanning three generations of New Zealanders, have been taught to swim through Hilton Brown Swimming, which runs its learn to swim programme out of the Roskill Aquasport complex.

Roskill Aquasport Ltd have also supported many people in training for the Special Olympics, and Olympic, Commonwealth and Masters Games.

However, the news isn’t all bad. “You can still be part of our family by joining us at our sister site, Onehunga Aquasport, Jellicoe Pools, where we will continue to provide swimming tuition and look after your health and wellbeing,” says Hilton.

Onehunga Aquasport Centre is located at Jellicoe Park, Onehunga. For more information phone 636-5330 or visit www. hiltonbrownswimming. co.nz.

Fond farewell: Roskill Aquasport customer service manager Matt Down, facility manager Lisa Ensor and gym manager Scott Davies.
