Contestants in the HSBC Round the Bays drank the equivalent of a couple of swimming pools of water – provided by sponsor Watercare, then topped up with bottled Pump water at the finish line.
They also chewed through thousands of Cadbury Moro bars, handed out to celebrate participation.
Moro wanted to celebrate the underdog and also gave away a used MG sports car to the fourth-placed entrant, 30-year-old Parnell athlete Simon Riley.
The call for runners to “come fourth to win” is part of a campaign that celebrates giving things a go for the love of it.
