Con­tes­tants in the HSBC Round the Bays drank the equiv­a­lent of a cou­ple of swim­ming pools of wa­ter – pro­vided by spon­sor Water­care, then topped up with bot­tled Pump wa­ter at the fin­ish line.

They also chewed through thou­sands of Cad­bury Moro bars, handed out to cel­e­brate par­tic­i­pa­tion.

Moro wanted to cel­e­brate the un­der­dog and also gave away a used MG sports car to the fourth-placed en­trant, 30-year-old Par­nell ath­lete Si­mon Ri­ley.

The call for run­ners to “come fourth to win” is part of a cam­paign that cel­e­brates giv­ing things a go for the love of it.
