A walk in the park
Hundreds of people are due to gather at Takahi Reserve in Mt Eden this Sunday for the Down Syndrome Association’s annual Buddy Walk.
The 3.5km walk will also coincide this year with World Down Syndrome Day on Saturday.
It is the fourth year the Buddy Walk has been held in Auckland and aims to promote acceptance and inclusion of people with down syndrome.
Started 14 years ago in the United States, the Buddy Walk has grown from 17 events to more than 280 around the world.
More than 250,000 people participated last year, raising $10.5 million to benefit education, research and advocacy initiatives.
The walk in Takahi Reserve starts at 10am and will be followed by a fun fair with entertainment, food stalls and celebrities.
Participants can register for the walk by downloading a registration form from www. buddywalknz.org or can register on the day at 9am.
