Young tal­ent shines

Po­ten­tial fu­ture Black Sox got to show their skills at the boys’ Cen­tral Zone in­ter­me­di­ate soft­ball tour­na­ment ear­lier this month.

Pasadena In­ter­me­di­ate won the year seven fi­nal, with hosts Wes­ley In­ter­me­di­ate sec­ond and Waikowhai In­ter- me­di­ate com­ing third.

And in the year 8 fi­nal Kowhai In­ter­me­di­ate took out the ti­tle, with Bal­moral In­ter­me­di­ate run­ners-up and Waikowhai and St Peters shar­ing third spot.

Waikowhai year 7 stu­dent Bradley Den­nehy-Beals, 11, says he had a great day at the tour­na­ment.

“There were heaps of good catches and hits.”

Tour­na­ment or­gan­iser Sharon Browne says there’s plenty of ju­nior soft­ball tal­ent in cen­tral Auck­land, with a num­ber of close matches dur­ing the com­pe­ti­tion.
