Cornwall loses chance

Cornwall’s slim chances of winning the Hedley Howarth Trophy two-day club cricket competition seem to have slipped away thanks to University Ellerslie’s batsmen.

Needing an outright victory to have any chance of winning the title, University Ellerslie batted for most of the day, notching up a competitive 234 at Colin Maiden Park.

Cornwall were 14-1 at the end of day one, leaving them a huge task next week to come away with maximum points. Meanwhile Eden Roskill produced their best batting display of the season against Takapuna at Onewa Domain, posting 325-6 declared.

Takapuna were 11-0 stumps.

Grafton’s bowlers struggled to restrict Parnell at Shore Rd, with the home team scoring 333-7 declared.

In reply Grafton were left in a shaky position at 38-2 at the end of the day.
