City dark­ness lights the way

All over Auck­land peo­ple will power down for Earth Hour to­mor­row from 8.30pm.

Events planned for the city in­clude: • More FM is hold­ing a party for the street that has the most peo­ple sign up for Earth Hour • The Lang­ham Ho­tel is hold­ing a can­dle­light din­ner. There will be wine, food and mu­sic and it is open to pub­lic • Eco­s­tore in Free­mans Bay will host a can­dle­light gath­er­ing with the Rands fam­ily ukulele band, led by com­pany chief ex­ec­u­tive Malcolm Rand • For a can­dle-lit ban­quet fea­tur­ing food sourced from within 20 miles, head to the Hil­ton Ho­tel • SkyC­ity will power down on the night • Coun­cil build­ings in­clud­ing the town hall, Mis­sion Bay foun­tain and coun­cil offices will switch off • The Auck­land mu­seum will also be tak­ing part • Auck­land branches of McDon­ald’s, Burger Wis­con­sin and Star­bucks will turn off their lights.
