Speed bumps await council action

A petition to stop speeding along Calgary St has hit its own speed bump.

Resident Cathrin Arndt is one of 80 signatories on the petition that requests traffic-slowing measures along the Sandringham street, but whether the council thinks it a priority will not be known until May.

Ms Arndt was approached by fellow resident Helga Arlington with the petition in March and immediately offered support.

“I was seriously considering doing something similar myself. We have a blind flatmate and every day we worry about him being run over,” she says.

“It’s a wide long street. Some cars start racing as soon as they turn the corner and you can tell they’re going faster than 50kmh. I don’t want to wait until someone gets run over or hurt.”

Turn to P3
