Musuku hop­ing for an­other shot at Mt Al­bert

The Na­tional Party’s for­mer can­di­date for Mt Al­bert is stay­ing mum about his chances of be­ing nom­i­nated again.

Ravi Musuku says he is keen to have an­other shot af­ter los­ing to He­len Clark in 2005 and 2008.

“I have been work­ing for the past five years in the elec­torate,” Mr Musuku says.

But he wouldn’t com­ment fur­ther, leav­ing it up to Na­tional’s lead­er­ship to make an an­nounce­ment in the com­ing weeks.

Na­tional’s can­di­date nom­i­na­tions closed yes­ter­day, with list MP Melissa Lee ex­pected to be Mr Musuku’s main com­pe­ti­tion for the nom­i­na­tion.

The race for the Labour nom­i­na­tion ap­pears to be wide open with list MP Phil Twyford at the head of the pack.

Auck­land city coun­cil­lor Glenda Fryer has an­nounced she is seek­ing the nom­i­na­tion.

Other con­tenders are ex­pected to be for­mer Labour list MP Louisa Wall, Auck- land Uni­ver­sity pol­i­tics tu­tor Meg Bates, for­mer Young Labour pres­i­dent Conor Roberts, AUT lec­turer Hamish McCracken and em­ploy­ment lawyer He­len White.

Nom­i­na­tions for Labour close on April 22.
