The Sandringham community came out to support its Post Shop at a public meeting calling for its key services to be retained.

More than 50 people attended the meeting on April 16 in an effort to stop New Zealand Post from taking away KiwiBank, motor vehicle and other services at the shop. Owner Chander Satija was told the services would be removed from July 25.

Sandringham Community Centre chairman Lingappa Kalburgi said the community and local businesses had rallied behind Mr Satija on the issue.

Auckland city councillor Glenda Fryer also attended the meeting and questioned why the services would be removed when the shop was doing well.

She says the meeting has requested that New Zealand Post reverse its decision and keep the services open.

New Zealand Post head of sales and service delivery Scott Pollard says it will consider the questions put to it by the meeting before giving a response.

He says the Balmoral Post Shop will also have similar services removed.

Both shops have been offered post centre contracts.
