Read all about the 20 millionth book
Mt Roskill Primary School pupil Arpita Mushrif’s class is the lucky recipient of the 20 millionth book delivered to a New Zealand school by the National Library of New Zealand.
The class celebrated the occasion with morning tea cupcakes and Arpita, who likes reading chapter books, says receiving the 20 millionth book was fun.
“It’s bigger than a mil- lion and that’s bigger than a thousand, but it’s not bigger than 30 million,” she says.
“The 20 millionth book is just the tip of the iceberg,” says Geraldine Howell, director of services to young New Zealanders at the National Library.
“We have been providing resources to schools for over 70 years.
“The book delivery service is well loved and well used by almost all schools in New Zealand.”
Ms Howell says the service began in 1992 and issues more than one million books to schools every year.
“We want to support educators to develop young New Zealanders who are engaged and motivated readers, with the skills to be confident and creative users of information.”
