Gang links lead to eviction

Central Leader - - News -

A woman whose gang member partner was accused of causing trouble in the neighbourhood will be evicted from her Housing New Zealand flat tomorrow.

Nancy James has had her tenancy terminated at the Jordan Ave flat after a Tenancy Tribunal hearing last month.

Housing New Zealand presented numerous complaints of threats and intimidation regarding Ms James’ partner, patched Mongrel Mob member Jacob Wirepa.

The corporation’s evidence of complaints went back to 2003 and there were also some recent complaints about the behaviour of two of the couple’s young sons.

Police officers also gave evidence about two incidents involving Mr Wirepa, including one in which the Eagle helicopter had to make a rare landing near the flats to provide backup.

The state house ten- ancy will end at 4pm tomorrow.

In his written decision, adjudicator Steve Gibbs found that the reasonable peace, comfort or privacy of other tenants and neighbours had been interfered with.

He concluded Ms James had turned a blind eye to Mr Wirepa’s behaviour, either because she did not believe there was anything she could do, or she did not accept he was a problem.
