New non-surgical treatment for short-sighted adults and children

If you or your child is short-sighted, there may now be a way to free you from contact lenses and glasses without surgery.

Eden Eye Optometrists’ corneal refractive therapy – or CRT, is a safe, non-invasive and reversible process that reshapes the cornea of the eye using special therapeutic contact lenses.

You wear them while you sleep and take them out in the morning. During the day your corneas retain the flattened shape from the night before.

It’s simple, effective and easy – and ideal for those who can’t be bothered with contacts or glasses, as well as anyone involved in sports, suffering from dry eyes or engaged in dusty, dirty activities for which wearing contacts isn’t feasible.

“The response to CRT has been overwhelming, and we’ve helped chil- dren as young as seven,” says Vicky Wang, the optometrist at Eden Eye.

“CRT can actually help retard the progression of myopia, which keeps children out of ‘Coke-bottle’ thick lenses by the time they’re teenagers. So the benefits are immediate and long-term.”

To find out if you or your child is eligible for CRT, you’ll want to make an appointment with Vicky, who will give you an eye exam that will determine if you will be a good candidate.

In the meantime, here’s a quick checklist for those considering CRT:

• Healthy eyes with a degree of myopia – up to minus-6 dioptres – and astigmatism

• People who are not eligible for LSIK refractive surgery

• Children and adults with rapidly progressing short-sightedness

• Long-term contact lens wearers who have developed a sensitivity to their lenses.

In addition to specialising in CRT, Eden Eye Optometrists is a boutique eyewear shop that focuses on personal attention and building relationships with their customers.

Vicky, who earned her Bachelor’s with Honours and Master’s with Honours in Optometry from Auckland University, is committed to the com- munity and to supporting local Kiwi suppliers of frames, lenses and contacts.

“We’ve been here for nine years, and we treasure every customer,” Vicky says. “Each pair of eyeglasses is custom-made. Our quality is outstanding.”

Eden Eye Optometrists is located at 237 Symonds St, City. Phone 309 3922 or e-mail info@ eden
