Mum and infant wanted
Grey Lynn Primary School urgently needs a young infant and parent to be part of its Roots of Empathy programme beginning next week.
Roots of Empathy instructor Rachel Turner says the programme, aimed at year 5 pupils, helps reduce aggression and violence among school children while raising social and emotional competence.
“It also provides children with a clear understanding of a baby’s needs and what it is to be a good parent, thus offering the potential to break intergenerational cycles of family abuse,” she says.
“In this experiential learning, the baby helps children identify and reflect on their own feelings and the feelings of others.”
The award-winning programme requires a parent with a two to four-monthold infant who can visit Grey Lynn School for at least half an hour every three weeks throughout the year.
