Book lovers annual fair
Literature lovers of all ages will find plenty of bargains at Epsom Rotary Club’s annual book fair this month.
Unexpected treasures are a guaranteed find with proceeds from the fair going towards supporting local schools’ reading programmes.
The club is currently accepting donations from the community for the fair and expects to display more than 60,000 items ranging from fiction novels to university textbooks, DVDs and CDs.
Club member Doug Bunting says the book fair has been running for 11 years and is a great opportunity to give back to the community, with most items costing less than $10.
“We’d rather see them go out the door than keep hold of them until next year.”
Mr Bunting has been a member of the Epsom Rotary Club for more than 30 years and says the book fair is the club’s major fundraising event.
Rotary is a non-profit organisation dedicated to projects in the community.
It also supports programmes and educational opportunities for students, teachers and other professionals.
The book fair will be held on May 16 from 8am to 5pm and on May 17 from 9am to 3pm on Sunday at the Mt Eden War Memorial Hall, 489 Dominion Rd.
Entry is $12 between 8am and 9am on Saturday and free for the rest of the weekend.
To donate books, DVDs, CDs, videos, sheet music, children’s toys and puzzles, simply drop them off to your closest BP service station in Epsom, Mt Eden or Dominion Rd or phone 367-6421 to arrange collection.
