Six months to a new life
In an uncertain age where jobs are suddenly ending and lives upturned due to finances and other lifestyle factors, a 29 year old switched-on Generation X woman says now is the time to turn dreams into reality.
Nicola McLaren is a country girl now living in Auckland by way of stints in Japan and Korea. As the new Massage Head of Faculty for Wellpark College of Natural Therapies she claims she can turn people’s lives around in just six months.
Her solution? A six month massage course that can see people charge around $60-80 an hour once qualified. Demand is so strong for good massage therapists that the College’s own massage clinic is booked out months in advance.
“We really have a serious situation of demand outstripping supply of massage. I’m passionate about what massage can do for people,” says Nicola, who has swapped cow herds in Otago and downtown shopping in Osaka for a life of teaching meaningful wellbeing.
“Give me just six months of your time and I’ll show you a whole new direction and meaning to life.”
Nicola has put together a top notch team of qualified tutors who teach in her department.
She says massage students are in quick demand in holistic medical practices, spas, cruise ships or in running their own business. “Massage isn’t just some flaky ‘feel good’ therapy, but can actually help people change their lives,” says Nicola.
“Massage therapy can help people overcome injuries, meet sporting goals, build stronger immune systems, overcome life and emotionally stresses and find balm in a busy world. We are in the new era of evidencebacked holistic therapies where we can show in scientific models how such treatments aid people in their lives.”
Six months study, a $2300 price tag (study loans available) and students will gain a Certificate of Massage which includes aspects such as reflexology, relaxation massage, holistic pulsing, infant and pregnancy massage.
