Police are hoping to catch an arsonist who has struck three times in the space of a month.
They are appealing to residents of Balmoral and Mt Eden for any clues or sightings to assist in finding the person who has caused $50,000 worth of damage to a Dominion Rd building.
Detective constable Victoria Williams says the fires have been started in the early hours of the morning in the same block of buildings.
“They are clearly linked,” she says.
Richard Langridge, landlord and owner of Metropolitan Rentals, says there was a fire on Easter Monday which caused thousands of dollars worth of damage and two fires since then, the most recent last Thursday.
He says in one of the incidents, the fire was smouldering in the basement and melted a water pipe that fortunately acted as a sprinkler.
Gary Beer of the Auckland Fire Safety Department attended the most recent Dominion Rd fire.
“It appears it has been deliberately lit, there was an identical fire in an identical position a week ago.”
Any witnesses with information regarding fires at 321-331 Dominion Rd should ring 8205722 or the Avondale police on 820-5700.
