There were goals galore on Saturday as a number of central Auckland football clubs chased glory in the prestigious Chatham Cup tournament.

Chris Gage was the star of the show for Mt Albert-Ponsonby, finding the back of the net five times during his side’s 6-1 walloping of Westlake Boys High School.

Meanwhile Jacob Mathews notched up a hat-trick for Three Kings United in their 6-2 rout of Cambridge.

Onehunga-Mangere United defeated Tauranga City United 3-2, while Sunday League team Bohemian Celtic, an affiliate of the Three Kings club, ousted FC Whangarei 2-1.

They join Bay Olympic, Central United, Lynn-Avon United, Metro and Onehunga Sports in the next round of Chatham Cup action later this month.

The only notable exception to miss out on the next round is Mt Albert Grammar School, who succumbed 3-0 to Papatoetoe after impressive performances in previous years.

In Northern League premier action, Lynn-Avon United extended their advantage over allcomers to five points thanks to Robbie Greenhalgh’s 17th minute goal against Bay Olympic.

At the other end of the table, Metro earned a vital away point thanks to a 1-1 draw at Hamilton Wanderers.

In premier women’s league action, Three Kings United struggled to a 2-1 win against the lowly Fencibles United on Sunday.

Two Friday night clashes kick off this week’s premier league matches, with Central United and Onehunga Sports locking horns at the Croatian Cultural Society from 7.15pm.

Metro entertain Eastern Suburbs at Albie Turner Field from 7.30pm.

On Saturday, Bay Olympic host Papatoetoe at Olympic Park, while Lynn-Avon take on Melville United at Gower Park.

On Sunday Lynn-Avon’s tabletopping women’s side take on Eastern Suburbs at Ken Maunder Park from 1pm, while secondplaced Three Kings face Claudelands Rovers at Galloway Park from noon.
