Winter’s upon us, and so is cold and flu season.

To combat it, Roskill Union & Community Health is offering free flu vaccine to all its registered patients.

And to sweeten the deal, those who take them up on the offer go into a draw for prizes such as two kid-sized bikes and a $100 Briscoes gift voucher!

The flu vaccine is but the tip of the iceberg in the array of services and general medical care that the centre offers to Mt Roskill and surrounding areas. All registered and funded patients get access to various free services, including an interpreter service, diabetes management, sexual health checks and access to a smoking cessation clinic.

All registered and funded women are eligible for free cervical smears.

The fees for the centre’s services are low. The initial joining fee for adults is $25, $15 for 6-18 year olds and the under-6s are free. Primary and secondary school students pay nothing for medical visits, while adults pay $10, and superannuitants are charged just $5. Visits to the nurse also cost only $5.

Another benefit from being a registered and funded patient is that prescriptions are often subsidised to a standard $3 per item, and all enrolled patients receive discounted after hours White Cross medical care.

“We are able to offer huge savings for patients without private health insurance,” says manager Rajnish Sethi, “and we offer a range of medical services, including midwife, physio, pharmacy and lab facilities.

“We’re committed to providing accessible, low cost, high quality and culturally appropriate healthcare to the local community.”

The Centre serves a large group of multicultural patients including Maori, European, Pacific Island, Indian, Asian, and refugee populations. The staff is as cul- turally diverse, with health professionals from Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Burma and Samoa, as well as New Zealand.
