Time running out on parking meters

Aucklanders have one week left to have their say on the extended onstreet parking hours proposed by Auckland City Council.

The proposal recommends extending pay and display parking hours in the central city from 6pm to 10pm.

It is designed to assist retail, hospitality and entertainment businesses by improving public access to on-street parking.

Parking in the city’s busiest streets would be available at half the normal tariff with no time restriction.

Councillor and chair- man of the transport committee Ken Baguley says the current hours mean city residents and workers are parking on the street, negatively affecting visitors to the area.

“We’re proactively encouraging inner city residents to park in offstreet parking buildings,” he says.

Feedback from public consultation will be reported to the transport committee before a decision is made.
