Big screen

Central Leader - - News -

In regard to Big screen TV for square, October 7, I have just been to Tiananman Square in China where they have two big screen TVs and they are amazing.

I agree it would be a fantastic asset for the square, however we have to be realistic.

We do not have the population of China, nor the technology to make it locally for realistic prices, nor the population to enjoy the screen to make it value for money in Aotea Square.

I think it would be great to have – if we could afford it.

But the reality is, we can’t. I don’t believe the council has excess funds to spend on luxury items, unless it can get sponsorship, and the advertising pays for it 100 percent with ongoing costs covered.

We all have to live within budgets, I would love a huge screen in my living room, but the reality is I can’t afford it.

When will the council people realise they are spending over their budgets and spending other people’s money?

I don’t want a rates rise of “inflation adjusted” costs when I did not get a pay rise to cover “inflation” only to hear the council is paying good money for unrealistic projects.

Let’s get a council that spends within their means, and spends cost efficiently. DAVID GALL
