US collection gets preview
Auckland residents will get an exclusive preview of the Julian and Josie Robertson Promised Gift exhibition at Auckland Art Gallery next month.
In May this year the gallery announced a gift of 15 works from New York art collectors and philanthropists Julian and Josie Robertson.
The collection is the most generous gift of its kind in Australia or New Zealand and includes paintings by Cezanne, Pablo Picasso, Gauguin and Mondrian.
A suite of rooms in the newly redeveloped art gallery’s 1887 Kitchener wing will be named the Juilan and Josie Robertson Galleries.
Five of the works will be on show in a free exhibition from November 7 to 13 at the New Gallery on the corner of Kitchener and Lorne streets.
The preview will include pieces by Picasso, George Braque, Henry Matisse, Andre Derain and Salvador Dali.
