Team of year title shared

The 2009 Central Leader team of the year award has been shared by the football sides which dominated their respective league and cup competitions during the recentlyconcluded season.

Lynn-Avon United’s premier women’s team share the prize with Three Kings United’s unbeaten first division men’s side, which saw both teams lose just one match.

Three Kings’ loss came in their maiden Chatham Cup final, but they made up for that by storming to the first division crown by 10 points from their nearest rivals.

They notched up a staggering record of 19 wins and five draws from their 24 games.

Add in the six Chatham Cup ties they won en route to the final and the 122 goals they scored in those 31 matches, their record speaks for itself.

The Lynn-Avon women won the minor premiership, Northern Premier Women’s League title and a record ninth National Women’s Knockout Cup.

The team’s success is all the more impressive after they lost five New Zealand internationals to the North American W-League.

Lynn-Avon’s

premier men’s team were the best-performed of the remaining local teams taking out the minor premiership crown in the Northern League title race, before twice missing out on the final in play-off encounters.

Central United had, by their standards, a disappointing campaign, missing out on the premier league play-offs after losing their last two matches.
