Kiwi Xmas CD for Plunket

Kiwi singing stars are chipping in to help raise funds for Plunket this Christmas.

Leading musicians including Jordan Luck, Jackie Clarke, Annie Crummer, Whirimako Black and Shona Laing along with bands Opshop and House of Shem have come together to record Merry Christmas Baby, which is on sale now.

The idea was initiated by France-based singersongwriter Monique Rhodes last year, when she picked up a 16year-old hitchhiker who was trying to visit her baby on his second birthday.

Moved by the teenage mother’s story, Monique made a promise to do whatever she could to make a positive difference.

She wrote the song Forever Strong and gifted it to Plunket, then called on other artists to record songs to make an album.

Merry Christmas Baby combines original songs with a handful of unique versions of traditional Christmas songs.

Royal New Zealand Plunket president Carol Becker says proceeds from the album will stay in the areas where it is purchased, to help communities deliver support most relevant to their local areas.
