Batsmen win it for Grafton
An impressive batting performance has seen Grafton United rack up their first win in the Jeff Crowe Cup one-day competition.
Chasing Eden Roskill’s 236-9, star performances from Sri Rajasekar, 74, and Matt Wouldes, 77, helped Grafton claim the win in the 48th over with six wickets to spare at Keith Hay Park on Saturday.
Grafton survived some early wobbles as Eden Roskill put down three catches in the opening overs, but didn’t falter again on their way to victory.
Earlier in the day, in-form Eden Roskill batsman Brad Staddon made 82.
Meanwhile, Cornwall suffered an agonising one-wicket loss to Howick Pakuranga at Lloyd Elsmore Park.
The visitors would have fancied their chances after Brent Findlay, 73no, captain Craig Pryor, 63, and legspinner Tarun Nethula, 41, all contributed to a useful total of 249-7.
But a superb unbeaten 134 from Andy de Boorder, who hit six sixes and seven fours, proved to be the match-winning innings as he led Howick’s run chase from start to finish.
A useful 36 by Michael Davis helped de Boorder get Howick home and secure the win on the last ball of the 49th over.
Next Saturday Cornwall host Suburbs New Lynn at Cornwall Park, Grafton United face Howick Pakuranga at Victoria Park and Eden Roskill clash with Takapuna at Onewa Domain.
