Recycling grants a chance to showcase initiatives
Bright ideas from Auckland’s innovative green thinkers could be brought to life by a nationwide recycling grants programme.
Keep New Zealand Beautiful and The Coco-Cola Foundation have teamed up to help communities put in place initiatives to increase drink container recycling.
The foundation has set aside $180,000 for the successful applicants from community groups, schools and councils across New Zealand.
Keep New Zealand Beautiful chairwoman Iris Donoghue says this is an opportunity for local communities to showcase their initiatives. Funding applications are now open for projects ranging from $3000 to $15,000.
Coca-Cola Oceania general manager Paul Fitzgerald says the foundation is looking to fund recycling programmes that are fun and simple.
But they must also make a tangible difference within the local community.
‘‘At home 97 per cent of Kiwis are good recyclers,’’ Mr Fitzgerald says.
‘‘Comparatively only 18 per cent of waste material collected out-and-about is recycled.
‘‘This campaign will be a catalyst for bringing creative ideas around recycling to life over the next year.’’
Applications close on December 14 at 5pm.
