Visitors to Motat donated more than 6000 gifts to families supported by the Auckland City Mission and Barnardos over Christmas.

Throughout December visitors were invited to purchase and donate a present from the gift shop instead of paying an admission fee.

Donated goodies were gifted through the Auckland City Mission and Barnardos to families in need.

Gold coin donations from the Motat Nights, Christmas Lights events, which saw almost 8000 people through the doors, were also used to buy gifts for the charities.

The total value of the gifts donated this year was up by almost 50 per cent on the previous year.

‘‘Motat takes pride in being a community-focused organisation, which includes educating children and also putting our efforts behind fantastic initiatives such as this,’’ marketing manager Diana Wharton says.

Auckland City Mission chief executive Diane Robertson says the gifts were well received.
