Organisers of the annual Pasifika Festival are already planning next year’s festival after a record attendance at Western Springs.

The 2013 event took place last month and was run for the first time over two days, attracting about 80,000 people.

Pasifika is organised by the council-controlled organisation, Auckland Tourism, Events and Economic Development (ATEED).

‘‘The introduction of a Sunday event was a great success with more than 20,000 people enjoying the Pasifika experience,’’ ATEED spokeswoman Virginia Terpstra says. ‘‘ We are delighted with the results.’’

She says the popularity of the Sunday event, which included a huge interdenominational church service, shows Aucklanders and visitors are keen on the two-day option.

Next year’s festival will take place on March 8 and 9.
