Young physi­cists aim for worlds

Physics is a fight­ing mat­ter for three top Year 13 ACG Par­nell stu­dents.

They have been se­lected from 17 Auck­land schools to rep­re­sent Auck­land in the New Zealand In­ter­na­tional Young Physi­cists Com­pe­ti­tion this Satur­day at the Univer­sity of Auck­land.

The com­pe­ti­tion in­volves six schools from around the coun­try and is the most elite physics com­pe­ti­tion in the world for high school stu­dents. It in­volves them con­duc- ting seven ex­per­i­ments over three months and then pre­sent­ing and de­bat­ing them in­di­vid­u­ally against other teams.

From this round of the com­pe­ti­tion five stu­dents are se­lected to rep­re­sent the New Zealand team in the World Fi­nals which will be held in Tai­wan, in July this year.

Last year ACG Par­nell stu­dent Matthew Harvey was se­lected to at­tend the 2012 fi­nals in Ger­many.
