Proceeds from a fundraising high tea event on Mother’s Day will help buy back-to-basics packs for disadvantaged kids.

Tickets to the May 12 function at Auckland’s Heritage Hotel are on sale now for $65 per adult and $30 per child.

Variety – The Children’s Charity is behind the event, which will include entertainment from Tui award-winning singer/songwriter Tami Nielson.

Toni Street and Renee Wright from TVNZ will talk to MC Mary Lambie about the joys and lessons of motherhood and the guest speaker is Jane Portman, the principal of a decile-one school in Gisborne.

Each back-to-basics

pack contains toothpaste and a toothbrush, shampoo, conditioner, a notebook and a pen.

Ms Lambie says she is honoured to help raise awareness and money for children from struggling families.

‘‘Mothering is hard enough without the added pressure of wondering where the next meal will come from,’’ she says.
