Dom Rd plaque set to stay

Central Leader - - NEWS -

A piece of guerilla artwork celebrating Dominion Rd is here to stay.

The brass plaque reading ‘‘ You are standing halfway down Dominion Road’’ was installed in the pavement at 788 Dominion Rd in March.

The artist responsible wants to remain anonymous but says it is a tribute to the street and Mutton Birds frontman Don McGlashan.

It was put there without Auckland Transport’s permission and the Albert-Eden Local Board started a campaign to keep it.

An Auckland Transport spokesman says the organisation is happy for the plaque to stay and will reinstate it when the road is upgraded in 2015.
