Test­ing time for Ge­orgie Pie

An old Kiwi favourite is back.

Ge­orgie Pie will test the ap­petite for its prod­uct at two Auck­land McDon­ald’s branches be­fore de­cid­ing whether to ex­pand its range and out­lets.

The pies will be on the menus of the Queen St and Green­lane McDon­ald’s restau­rants from early June, be­fore be­ing rolled out to five other McDon­ald’s sites in Auck­land and four sites in the Waikato shortly af­ter.

Only one flavour – Steak Mince ‘N’ Cheese – will be avail­able at a cost of $4.50 a pie.

The pos­si­bil­ity of a national roll­out and other flavours is to be eval­u­ated.

The Ge­orgie Pie brand and prod­uct, owned by McDon­ald’s, was aban­doned 15 years ago.

The pies will be pro­duced at the for­mer Ge­orgie Pie pro­duc­tion fa­cil­ity in Manukau.

McDon­ald’s New Zealand man­ag­ing di­rec­tor Pa­trick Wil­son is ex­cited to see how cus­tomers will re­act af­ter so many years.

‘‘Our re­search sug­gests that Ki­wis still have a big ap­petite for their favourite pie brand. We hope that af­ter the launch ex­cite­ment, they will come back and en­joy a great tast­ing, qual­ity prod­uct. We will then eval­u­ate the pilot and look at op­tions for a na­tion­wide roll­out.’’
