Testing time for Georgie Pie
An old Kiwi favourite is back.
Georgie Pie will test the appetite for its product at two Auckland McDonald’s branches before deciding whether to expand its range and outlets.
The pies will be on the menus of the Queen St and Greenlane McDonald’s restaurants from early June, before being rolled out to five other McDonald’s sites in Auckland and four sites in the Waikato shortly after.
Only one flavour – Steak Mince ‘N’ Cheese – will be available at a cost of $4.50 a pie.
The possibility of a national rollout and other flavours is to be evaluated.
The Georgie Pie brand and product, owned by McDonald’s, was abandoned 15 years ago.
The pies will be produced at the former Georgie Pie production facility in Manukau.
McDonald’s New Zealand managing director Patrick Wilson is excited to see how customers will react after so many years.
‘‘Our research suggests that Kiwis still have a big appetite for their favourite pie brand. We hope that after the launch excitement, they will come back and enjoy a great tasting, quality product. We will then evaluate the pilot and look at options for a nationwide rollout.’’
