Justice system

Central Leader - - LETTERS -

Am I old fashioned or just out of touch with reality?

On April 30 a judge sentenced four young men to ‘‘life’’ imprisonment for the roadside stabbing and subsequent death of a young man after a party, Central Leader, May 3.

Did they get life? Oh no they will spend the next 13 years in prison for what to me was a cold blooded attack on a young man causing his death.

In my youth if you were sentenced to ‘‘life’’ that’s what you served – no if, buts or maybes. Our justice system is a laugh. Offenders get either home detention or community service which to me is just a slap with a wet bus ticket and leaves the way open for them to commit more crimes.

As a side note: Earlier this month when I arrived at Alexandra Park I was horrified to fine some scum bags had stolen the beautiful coloured bronze head of Cardigan Bay off his plinth and they had also tried to take the plinth but it was obviously too heavy to take as well.

The old gentleman who spent many weeks making the head and last year re-colouring and polishing it will be devastated when he finds out.

I bet those responsible will try to knock it off to a dealer for a few measly dollars. Time for the courts to get some common sense.
